Guerlain Holds First Bee School in Cebu

Guerlain Holds First Bee School in Cebu

May 16, 2024. It was a bee-autiful day at Anzani New Mediterranean Restaurant, Nivel Hills, Cebu, as guests, both kids and moms, were taken on a journey into the realm of bees to celebrate the sentinels of the environment ahead of World Bee Day.

Guerlain, with its commitment to help protect the bees and preserve biodiversity, launched their BEE SCHOOL in France in 2018 to raise awareness among school children of the need to protect bees. It then went global in 2021, was introduced in Manila last year, and has now made its way to Cebu, thanks to the Guerlain Philippines team headed by their Brand General Manager Lyra Prieto.

Bee School centered on the importance of bees-- the role they play in our daily lives, and how their existence play a major role in the eco-system. The fun and interactive forum included discussions on biodiversity, interesting Q&A, workshops on pot painting and planting melliferous (pollen and nectar-rich) plants, as well as live demo on beekeeping and honey extraction.

For World Bee Day, and since its inception, the House of Guerlain's goal remains the same: to raise up to 1 million euros in 3 days to support the Guerlain for Bees Conservation Programme. With every purchase from May 20 to May 23, 20% of purchases will go to the programme, a network of allies which brings together 15 partnerships and initiatives dedicated to bee protection. An initiative that Angelina Jolie has supported since the beginning.

Parallel to the Bee School initiative, the "Women for Bees" program is Guerlain's beekeeping entrepreneurship program that aims to empower women through a sustainable business activity and to contribute to the protection of endemic bees. This is linked to UNESCO and local reference NGOs.

The fun-filled afternoon concluded with a planting activity, one that left my 4-year-old wondering why they had to leave their pots at Anzani.

"But, why, mom? How can I take care of it?"

But before I could even offer an explanation, she went on to say:

"Oh, well. I'll plant the rest of the seeds at home so we can have more bees!"

You're right on track, Bee School.
